Ancient City Wall

Big Wild Goose Pagoda
β β RecommendedA 7th-century Buddhist pagoda built to house scriptures brought from India. The surrounding plaza has a nightly fountain show with music and lights β surprisingly impressive and free.

Biangbiang Noodles
Hand-pulled belt-like noodles β wide, thick, and chewy β topped with chili oil, vinegar, garlic, and vegetables. The name comes from the sound of slapping dough on the counter. Xi'an's signature dish.

Roujiamo (Chinese Hamburger)
Slow-braised chopped pork stuffed inside a crispy flatbread β often called the world's oldest hamburger (dates back to 200 BC). Get it from street vendors in the Muslim Quarter.

Yangrou Paomo (Lamb Soup with Bread)
You tear a flatbread into tiny pieces, hand the bowl to the kitchen, and they return it filled with rich lamb broth and tender meat. A ritual as much as a meal. Xi'an's most traditional dish.

π Getting Around
Metro: Covers the main areas. Use Alipay β open the app β Transport (εΊθ‘) β Metro (ε°ι) β select Xiβan β scan QR at gates. The city wall, Muslim Quarter, and Bell Tower are all within walking distance of each other.
To Terracotta Army: Take Tourist Bus Line 5 (ζΈΈ5) from the East Square of Xiβan Railway Station (Β₯7, ~1 hour). Or use DiDi (Β₯80β120).
Walking: The historic center is compact and very walkable. Most attractions are within a 2 km radius.
Xiβan is much smaller and more relaxed than Beijing or Shanghai. You can see the main sights in 2 full days. Itβs the perfect βsecond cityβ after Beijing β take the 4.5-hour high-speed train between them.

It opens at 8:30 AM β arrive by 8:00 AM to beat the tour groups. Pit 1 is best with fewer people.
