🚇 Getting Around

City to Parks: The city center (where Tianmen Mountain is) and Wulingyuan (where the National Forest Park is) are about 40 minutes apart. Regular shuttle buses run between them.

Inside the Forest Park: The park operates free eco-shuttle buses that run between different scenic areas and cable car stations.

⚠️
Warning

Navigating the National Forest Park can be confusing. Pick up a map, know your gate (there are several entrances), and pay attention to shuttle bus routes and closing times.

💡 Insider Tips

1

Where to stay

Stay in Wulingyuan Town for easy access to the National Forest Park. Stay in Zhangjiajie City Center if you plan to visit Tianmen Mountain early the next morning.

2

Prepare for physical exertion

Even with elevators and cable cars, you will be walking and climbing thousands of steps. Bring good hiking shoes and plenty of water.

3

Watch out for wild monkeys

The macaques in the park (especially near Golden Whip Stream) are aggressive. Do not carry plastic bags, do not eat in front of them, and do not try to pet them.

4

Cloudy days can be magic

While heavy rain ruins the view, the days right after rain often feature the famous 'sea of clouds', making the floating mountains look exactly like Avatar.
